Realme has officially announced the launch of its latest mid-range phone – Realme 8i. But while the price might seem mid-level, the phone is anything but that. Designed especially with gamers and photographers in mind, the new Realme 8i is jam-packed with new additions that try to set it apart from its predecessors.

Starting off with the design, Realme has included a polycarbonate build for the 8i. The rear end of the phone features a glossy gradient finish. The camera bump is located on the top left of the rear end which houses a triple camera setup including an LED flashlight. The glossy finish, although results in an eye-catching appearance, is quite prone to smudges and fingerprints.
The front portion of the 8i houses a 6.6-inch display with a punch-hole type selfie camera. The side and top bezels are quite thin as compared to the bottom bezel. The power button is located on the right side of the phone along with the inclusion of the side-mounted fingerprint. The Realme 8i weighs 194g and is 8.5mm thick. The left side of the phone includes a volume rocker and the sim tray. The bottom part includes a type-c port along with a 3.5mm audio jack and a single speaker.
As for the display, the new Realme 8i features a 6.6-inch FHD+display with a 120Hz refresh rate which can also be changed and set to the standard 60Hz. The 8i’s display supports 2412 x 1080p resolution and supports a peak brightness of 600 nits.
PERFORMANCE
The new Realme 8i features a MediaTek Helio G96 which supports the previously mentioned 120Hz refresh rate. Realme and MediaTek teamed up to create an ultra-powerful processor. The clocks speed of the newly updated process is up to 2.05GHz CPU, which uses a mix of ARM Cortex-A76 & Cortex-A55, delivering a smooth and visually stunning gaming experience. As per the company, “The 120Hz refresh rate, double the rate of traditional screens, makes every swipe silky smooth. With even 6 different refresh rates, your phone can also conserve battery power. Whether you’re playing games or watching movies, experience instant touch response and a wider field of view.”
The Realme 8i comes in two variants in terms of storage – 4GB RAM 64GB ROM and 6GB RAM 128 GB ROM. The storage is expandable via a dedicated storage slot. The 8i runs on UI 2.0 based on Android 11.

BATTERY & CONNECTIVITY
As for the battery, the new Realme 8i is equipped with a 5000mAh battery which is enough to support up to 8 hours of gaming and 10 hours of standard screen time. Although the phone supports a 30W charger, you’ll only receive an 18W Fast Charger with the box.
The Realme 8i supports 2 Nano SIM cards and 1 MicroSD card simultaneously and supports a maximum of 256GB memory expansion. Connectivity features of the phone include compass, gyro, accelerometer, and proximity.
CAMERA
Unlike its predecessor, the Realme 7i, the new 8i does not feature an ultra-wide sensor. The triple camera setup includes a 50MP primary sensor, a 2MP macro lens, and a 2MP B/W lens. The 8i also lets you record dual video with both the front and rear cameras recording video simultaneously.
The front camera is a 16MP selfie camera housed on the top left side of the display.
